2,186 data centers·49 states·593 stopped or paused
The largest infrastructure buildout in American history.
1,285 data centers proposed or under construction, on top of 901 already running across 49 states and D.C.
proposed under construction operating
Sites that reached the record in the last 7 days, newest first. The day is when the row was added to the tracker, not when the project was announced.
The biggest proposals by stated capacity. A proposal is a company’s stated intent, and the biggest numbers on the map live here.
Sites with crews on the ground, biggest first.
The campuses at the scale of a power plant. The AI buildout, by name.
Canceled, withdrawn, voted down or held by a moratorium, each with the source for how it ended. They stay on the map as lights that are off.
Active sites on the map, by state. Each state has its own page.
The busiest places on the map, each with its own page within 25 miles of a ZIP code.
A data center big enough that its power is counted in megawatts, which is most of what gets built now. One megawatt of data center load draws about what 750 American homes draw. The campuses in the news run from about a hundred megawatts to several gigawatts, and a gigawatt is a thousand megawatts.
It’s the large-scale ones: the hyperscale and AI campuses, the other major commercial data centers, and the projects proposed or under construction. We don’t map the smaller data centers that have long supported telecommunications and business, and a facility goes on the map once we can tie it to a public record.
Either we haven’t found a public record for it yet, or it’s small enough that we keep it off the map. If we’re missing one, tell us with the form on this page and we’ll check it against the public record.
Because most data centers never say how big they are. Any estimated total we provided would likely be a massive undercount.
