Zion National Park Video Synopsis
ZION is the culmination of nearly a month spent exploring Zion National Park during peak fall color. Exquisitely carved by the Virgin River over millions of years, Zion Canyon is one of the most stunning places on earth. But this film doesn’t stop there. This park has so much more to offer outside of the main canyon. Golden meadows, sweeping vistas, red rock mountains, towering white temples, and powerful ancient rivers comprise this incredible treasure.
The Making of Our Zion Film
This Zion National Park video was the 6th film we produced in our award-winning video series which will eventually encompass every single national park in America. To make this film we spent 24 days in Zion National Park during the fall season.
We chose to capture this film in autumn to showcase the stunning and little known fall color of Zion National Park. Fall is also a time when visitation dies down from peak summer months and one can find more solace in the park.
Fun Memories From Zion
We got caught in a wild snowstorm in Kolob Canyon that was quite memorable. We started what was setting up to be a fairly general time lapse of the canyon with blue skies and a few clouds. All of a sudden and out of nowhere, the skies darkened and the temperature plummeted.
The next thing we knew snow dumping in the canyon and we were in near white out conditions within minutes. We scrambled to cover our tripods in plastic bags and a spare jacket – anything we could find. It was so cold and we were freezing our butts off but didn’t want to lose the shot so we pressed on. Eventually the storm passed and on the other side there was blue skies again but the canyon was totally transformed.
The red rock that had been there before the storm had been blanketed in a brilliant coat of white. It was spectacular. And we caught it all on film. You can see it in the video above at about 2:05.
