The situation
What’s happening to Carrizo Plain
California’s Serengeti. The largest remaining chunk of San Joaquin Valley grassland, home to endangered kit foxes, pronghorn, and the largest concentration of painted rock art in the state. Oil drilling has surrounded it for decades. Now proposals to punch new wells inside the monument keep advancing.
