A new open-pit gold and silver mine on the Carlin Trend in Elko County, where more than half of the roughly 8,500-acre project area is BLM public land. The BLM fast-tracked the Orla Mining proposal under FAST-41, skipping the usual draft environmental impact statement and issuing the final EIS and decision together, leaving the public no chance to comment on the analysis before approval. Heap-leach gold mining in the high desert risks groundwater drawdown and cyanide contamination across the Tuscarora Field Office.
