The situation
Nearly 600,000 square miles of pristine coral reefs, deep-sea ecosystems, and migratory species found nowhere else on Earth. The largest marine protected area on the planet, and the protections are already being reviewed for reduction to accommodate commercial fishing interests. The ocean has no lobby.
