The situation
Nearly sold to private timber interests before a public outcry saved it. Oregon’s oldest state forest harbors some of the last coastal old growth in the state and the southernmost marbled murrelets. Now managed as a “research forest,” but the research mandate is only as strong as the political will behind it.
