The situation
What’s happening to Book Cliffs
The longest continuous escarpment in the world, running 200 miles from eastern Utah into Colorado. Wilderness-quality BLM land in the southern Uinta Basin, critical habitat for elk, mule deer, and greater sage-grouse. The BLM sold 57 parcels covering 68,632 acres in a March 2026 lease sale, the third consecutive round targeting the greater Book Cliffs area. Parcels stretch from the Green and White River corridors near Vernal south to Thompson Springs and Moab.
