Know the Night: The Fight to Protect Natural Darkness
Years of filming public lands destinations taught us the night sky is the easiest thing to lose and the hardest to get back. We made this with DarkSky International about what disappears when the dark does. More than 80 percent of us can no longer see the Milky Way, and that should bother you.
We’ve spent years filming America’s public lands. Deserts, forests, coastlines, mountains, and in nearly all of our work you find the night sky.
This film is about what happens when that sky begins to fade.
Created in partnership with DarkSky International, Know the Night looks at the quiet loss of natural darkness. Today, more than 80 percent of Americans live under skies too polluted with artificial light to see the Milky Way.
Whole generations are growing up without ever seeing a real night sky. When that view disappears, something deeper goes with it: perspective, wonder, and the feeling that we’re part of something vast.
This film was made to honor the places that still protect the dark and the people working to keep it that way.
