“Tanana Chiefs Conference provides a unified voice in advancing sovereign tribal governments through the promotion of physical and mental wellness, education, socioeconomic development, and culture of the Interior Alaska Native people.”
64 years on the ground, 1 funder on the record.
The origin
Tanana Chiefs Conference is the tribal consortium of Interior Alaska: 42 members, including 39 villages and 37 federally recognized Tribes, across 235,000 square miles. It works for Tribal self-determination and runs health, natural resource and community programs for the region. It sued over the Ambler Road in 2020 with five Interior villages and says it will keep fighting it.
How they run
We don’t hold a detailed federal filing for this group. Groups this size often file the short form or run below the IRS reporting line, so there’s no budget or crew to show here, and that’s no knock: some of the sharpest local defense in the country runs this way.
