The origin
How they started
Grand Staircase Escalante Partners, founded in 2004 in the small town of Escalante, is the local nonprofit watching over Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, the BLM’s largest at roughly 1.87 million acres. It funds science, runs restoration like pulling invasive Russian olive from the banks of the Escalante River, and helped build the Escalante River Watershed Partnership. It stood by the monument through the 2017 boundary cuts that halved it and the 2021 restoration.
Every year they sign one sentence and file it with the federal government: “SEE SCHEDULE O”
