What’s happening to Silver Branch Project
A sprawling vegetation-management project across the Ottawa National Forest in Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula, covering more than 127,000 acres of national forest within a 177,000-acre planning area and roughly 58,000 acres of logging. In June 2026 a coalition of conservation groups filed a formal objection, warning the Forest Service relied on fast-tracked authorities to approve large-scale thinning without adequate review of impacts to wildlife, water, and old forest. Legal action was threatened if the agency does not respond.
