Named for the father of the Forest Service, surrounding Mount St. Helens, harboring some of the last old-growth Douglas fir in the southern Cascades. Timber sales keep chipping away at mature forests. The irony of clearcutting a forest named for the man who invented American forestry is apparently lost on the agency he founded.
