An in-situ uranium recovery project on the edge of the Black Hills in Fall River and Custer Counties, sacred ground to the Oceti Sakowin. In June 2026 the BLM signed a finding of no significant impact and decision record authorizing infrastructure on 240 acres of public land within a 10,580-acre project area. In-situ recovery injects chemical solutions underground to dissolve uranium, a process the Oglala Sioux Tribe warns threatens the Inyan Kara and Madison aquifers that supply drinking water across the region.
