Protective action worth supporting
NMFS is proposing updates to annual catch limits for spiny lobster in the U.S. Virgin Islands territories of St. Croix and St. Thomas and St. John. The rule would align management reference points with the most recent stock assessments to prevent overfishing and support sustainable yields. It'd primarily affect commercial and recreational lobster fishers operating in those waters.
In the agency’s own words
NMFS proposes regulations to implement Framework Action 4 under both the St. Croix Fishery Management Plan (FMP) and the St. Thomas and St. John FMP, as prepared by the Caribbean Fishery Management Council (Council). The proposed rule would update annual catch limits (ACLs) for spiny lobster in St. Croix and in St. Thomas and St. John. The purpose of this proposed rule and Framework Action 4 is to update management reference points for spiny lobster consistent with the most recent stock assessments to prevent overfishing and achieve optimum yield (OY).
Who signs it
The notice names no signer PLAN could read. PLAN names a decision-maker only when the document names one.
The ground
This fight isn’t bound to a map place in PLAN’s record yet. The notice names St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John; none is a unit on the threatened lands map, so there’s no place page to open or watch.
Who holds the vote
PLAN’s record doesn’t tie a member of Congress to this fight yet. The scorecard grades the votes and bills that decide public lands; nothing joins a vote or a bill to this decision, so there’s no member to name here without guessing.
