The Ambler Wire

Headlines. Eight Google News searches, run twice a day, and the feeds of Alaska and mining outlets. They are printed as the feed carries them, with the outlet's name taken off the end; where the feed cuts a line short the page says so, and the link has it whole. A headline the feed dates without a time is printed with its date and no time. The dates are the feed's. Where an article states its own publication date we check the feed's date against it, and where the two are more than two days apart the page prints the article's and the date's hover says so. An article that states no date, or wouldn't open for our reader, stands on the feed's date. The same headline at more than one outlet on the same day is one row that names each outlet. A company's, an agency's, an office's or an advocacy group's own release is marked Statement, by one rule for all of them, our own posts included: the organization's own site (an agency's press-release page too), a press-release wire, or its own announcement reprinted under its name, which is how Alaska Native News bylines the releases it runs. The Statement names the maker, and the line under it says where the release ran. Every row opens the outlet's own page; the feed's link is kept on the row for the record.

The record. Filings are from Trilogy Metals' docket on SEC EDGAR; agency rows are the Federal Register, the agencies' notices and the documents themselves (an agency's press release is a Statement, not an agency row); court rows are the two Ambler dockets on CourtListener. Those are checked hourly. All times are Alaska time, so a filing made late in the evening in Alaska carries the next day's date on sec.gov.

The counts. The story counts on filings and agency rows are matched by date only, leave statements out, and the page doesn't say a story is about a filing. How we check everything else: How We Know.
