The State of Alaska applied for a Recordable Disclaimer of Interest (RDI), asking the federal government to formally give up its claim to the submerged lands beneath portions of the Arolik River System, including the East Fork of the Arolik River, the Arolik River, and Arolik Lake in western Alaska. If approved, this would transfer ownership of those riverbeds and lakebed from federal to state control. This affects how those submerged lands are managed, who has jurisdiction over them, and could have downstream implications for water rights, fish habitat protections, and public access.

On November 2, 2017, the State of Alaska (State) finalized an application with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for a recordable disclaimer of interest (RDI) from the United States for the submerged lands underlying portions of the Arolik River System, including the East Fork of the Arolik River, the Arolik River and Arolik Lake in western Alaska. An RDI, if issued, would disclaim the United States' interest in the lands underlying the portions of the waterbodies in the RDI application.
