The State of Alaska filed an application asking the federal government to formally give up its ownership claim to the submerged lands beneath portions of the Goodnews River System in western Alaska, including several rivers, creeks, and lakes. If approved, this Recordable Disclaimer of Interest would transfer control of those riverbeds and lakebeds from federal to state ownership, which can affect how those waters are managed for navigation, fishing, and resource extraction. Conservation professionals, tribal communities, and anyone with interests in this watershed should take note, as the BLM is currently soliciting public comments and additional information about these waterbodies.

On December 28, 2017, the State of Alaska (State) filed an application with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for a recordable disclaimer of interest (RDI) from the United States for the submerged lands underlying portions of the Goodnews River System, east of Goodnews Bay in western Alaska. On December 16, 2020, the BLM received a letter from the State which amended that application to remove Slate Creek.
