The EPA is proposing to roll back parts of its 2024 Safer Communities by Chemical Accident Prevention rule, which set standards for facilities that handle hazardous chemicals. The changes would loosen requirements around safety audits, community notifications, natural hazard planning, and employee participation by aligning RMP rules more closely with OSHA's existing Process Safety Management standards and eliminating provisions the agency says lack data to justify them. Facilities storing or using hazardous chemicals would be affected, as would communities and ecosystems near industrial sites.
