Oppose Removal of Geocarpon Minimum From the List of

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to remove Geocarpon minimum, a small flowering plant, from the federal list of endangered and threatened species. The agency's review found that threats to the species have been sufficiently reduced so it no longer qualifies for ESA protection. If finalized, the plant would lose federal protections under Sections 4 and 7 of the Endangered Species Act, affecting land managers, federal agencies, and developers who currently must consult on projects that could impact the species.

We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), propose to remove Geocarpon minimum from the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Plants. Our review indicates that the threats to Geocarpon minimum have been eliminated or reduced to the point that the species no longer meets the definition of an endangered or threatened species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (Act). Accordingly, we propose to delist Geocarpon minimum. This proposed rule completes the 5-year status review for the species.
