The BLM's Cascades Field Office is proposing to log approximately 866 acres of public land in Oregon through a mix of variable-retention clear-cutting and commercial thinning. It's a revival of a 2024 project that was cancelled due to shifting priorities, and it's required under the O&C Act to generate timber revenue from these Oregon and California Railroad revested lands. It'll affect old-growth and managed forest habitat in the region and could impact wildlife, watersheds, and recreation users in the area.

Background The Outlaw Ridge Timber Management Project was initially developed to address timber management needs within the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) jurisdiction. However, in 2024, the Environmental Assessment (EA) (previously under DOI-BLM-ORWA-N010-2024-0002-EA) for the project was cancelled due to shifting BLM management priorities.
