Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
Walk the older hardwood stands in the Jellico Mountains and photograph the biggest standing trees with a pack or a person beside them for scale, plus dead standing trunks and the closed canopy overhead.
The Jellico Mountains of southeastern Kentucky are next on the chopping block. The Forest Service greenlit a 40-year logging plan covering 10,000 acres including nearly a thousand acres of clear-cuts. In a landscape already ravaged by decades of coal mining, the proposal reads less like management and more like compounding injury.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
More Than Just Parks doesn’t direct where you go or what you do. Terms.
