Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
At the big lek in the core area, go at first light and photograph the strutting ground itself: birds on it, piles of droppings, feathers, and the unbroken sagebrush ringing it out to the horizon.
Wyoming holds more sage-grouse than any other state, and more oil and gas infrastructure. The core area strategy was supposed to balance both. Federal plan rollbacks have tipped the scales decisively toward industry, opening 15 million acres to drilling at levels scientists say the species cannot survive.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
More Than Just Parks doesn’t direct where you go or what you do. Terms.
