Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
Photograph the big trees in the mixed conifer around a grove edge, not just the sequoias: each large trunk with a person or pack for scale, plus any fire-killed sequoias still standing nearby.
The largest living things on Earth are dying. Wildfires supercharged by climate change have killed thousands of giant sequoias, trees that evolved to survive fire but cannot survive the infernos that decades of suppression and a warming climate have created. Now logging proposals framed as "fuel reduction" threaten to finish what the fires started.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
More Than Just Parks doesn’t direct where you go or what you do. Terms.
