Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
Photograph the swamp's water level on the Trail Ridge side: the dark waterline stained on cypress trunks and knees, any gauge post, and whether the shallow edges hold water or are dry. Same spot, same framing, each visit.
The oldest and most pristine blackwater swamp in North America, where alligators glide through cypress-dark water and sandhill cranes nest by the thousands. A $60 million buyout stopped the immediate mining threat in 2025, but there is no permanent law protecting Trail Ridge. The fight is won for now. The Okefenokee is not permanently safe.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
More Than Just Parks doesn’t direct where you go or what you do. Terms.
