Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
Photograph the big old coastal stands: trunks too wide to hug with a pack or person for scale, standing dead snags, and the layered canopy overhead. Shoot the same spot from a young replanted stand nearby for comparison.
Nearly sold to private timber interests before a public outcry saved it. Oregon's oldest state forest harbors some of the last coastal old growth in the state and the southernmost marbled murrelets. Now managed as a "research forest," but the research mandate is only as strong as the political will behind it.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
More Than Just Parks doesn’t direct where you go or what you do. Terms.
