Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
Pick one spot you already know, like a parking lot post or bathhouse, and shoot the dune line and beach from the same place every visit. Catch sand washed across to the bay side and horses on the marsh.
Wild horses, pristine beaches, and a barrier island migrating westward as the sea rises. Assateague is a landscape in constant motion, and budget cuts are gutting the staff that monitors its transformation. Without the science NPS provides, this island becomes another casualty of the assumption that wild places take care of themselves.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
More Than Just Parks doesn’t direct where you go or what you do. Terms.
