Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
Walk the creeks and springs on the Santa Rita ridgeline below the proposed Rosemont pit and waste rock ground. Photograph water actually flowing or pooling, wet seeps, and any animal tracks at the water's edge.
The Santa Rita Mountains south of Tucson are home to jaguars, ocelots, and species found nowhere else in the United States. The proposed Rosemont copper mine would destroy a mountain ridgeline, bury streams under billions of tons of waste rock, and drain the aquifer Tucson depends on. All for a foreign company's profit margin.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
