Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
On the tundra around Teshekpuk Lake, photograph caribou use: cows with calves, worn trails, tracks, droppings, shed antlers. Also shoot the flocks of geese and shorebirds massed on the lake margins and wet tundra.
The calving ground for the Teshekpuk caribou herd and a staging area for hundreds of thousands of migratory birds from six continents. Protections that kept drilling at bay have been rolled back, and the largest NPR-A lease sale in history just handed 1.33 million acres to eleven oil companies for $164.7 million.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
More Than Just Parks doesn’t direct where you go or what you do. Terms.
