Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
Photograph the springs and seeps in the canyon walls above the Green and Colorado Rivers. Show whether water is running, pooled or gone dry, plus the wet moss, cottonwoods and animal tracks around each one.
Where the Green and Colorado Rivers carve the earth into a labyrinth of stone so vast you can stand on the rim and see nothing made by human hands. Potash mining on its doorstep is drawing down the water table, and oil and gas leases surround the park on every side. The desert is fragile. The industry is not.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
More Than Just Parks doesn’t direct where you go or what you do. Terms.
