Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
On the walk in to Coyote Buttes and the Wave, photograph the bare ground beside the trail: crusted undisturbed soil, no hoofprints, no cow paths or manure. That is the before picture if cattle are let in.
Home to the Wave, Coyote Buttes, and the condor reintroduction program that pulled a species back from extinction with 22 birds. Vermilion Cliffs is one of the most geologically spectacular landscapes in the Southwest, and its monument boundaries are the only thing standing between those sandstone formations and expanded grazing.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
More Than Just Parks doesn’t direct where you go or what you do. Terms.
