Nothing is open on this one today. It is a place the Corps keeps an eye on, so we see the paperwork the day it lands.
Photograph the biggest, oldest ironwood trees: whole tree, trunk with a hat or boot for scale, and the young saguaros and other plants growing up under the canopy. Shoot several groves, not just one tree.
Ironwood trees that live a thousand years, creating nurse-tree canopies that shelter hundreds of species in one of the harshest environments on the continent. Mining companies want the copper deposits beneath these ancient groves, and the monument's boundaries are under review to hand it over.
Nobody is asking you to go here today. We watch this place so that the day a decision opens on it, the people who already know it hear the same week. If you are out here anyway, what you photograph now is worth more later than anything taken after the paperwork lands.
More Than Just Parks doesn’t direct where you go or what you do. Terms.
