Umatilla National ForestFuel and fire condition

The agency has published no document here with a sentence a photograph could settle, only a notice. The line below is read from that notice.

In the dry pine and fir stands on the North Fork John Day district, photograph a spot with big old trees still standing: the downed wood and needles on the ground, the small crowded trees underneath, and any huckleberry.

“there is no record of milkweed necessary for reproduction in the project area”

The agency wrote that in its own document, under Invertebrates (Sensitive, Candidate, and Proposed Species). Nobody has been out to check it.

Walk the creek bottoms and wet meadow edges in the 54 North project area and look for milkweed. In September look for tall stalks with fat pods splitting open into white silk. A clear photo of milkweed plants or seed pods growing in a creek bottom inside the project area would undercut the claim that none is there.

6 more sentences, in the agency’s own words, with where each one sits in the document. Any of them is fair game for a photograph.
